22 minutes after takeoff, the plane disappeared from the radar. Shortly before the plane disappeared, it made a strange ascent in altitude and the speed dropped heavily.
The wreckage was found separated into 2 pieces. The bodies of the victims were some places found around 2 kilometers from each other. According to the Russian civilian authority, the plane was teared apart while it was flying.
According to Associated Press, one of the pilots complained about the condition of the plane just before they began to board.
Technical failure?
Most of the evidence indicates that the crash was due to a technical failure. It is still too soon to tell what sort of technical failure we are dealing with. Experts tell: “It is not normal that a plane crashes when it has reached its altitude.”
The two black boxes are now found. The black boxes are some boxes placed in the plane’s rudder and they record everything that happens on board. One of the boxes record everything in the cockpit and what the pilots says. The other one records all the technical information, like engine power, the wings positions and so on.
Militants claim to be responsible
The area where the plane crashed is known as a home to ISIS-affiliated militants, who are fighting the Egyptian security forces. The ISIS-affiliated militants claim to be responsible for shooting down the plane. They say that is revenge for the Russian bombings in Syria.
The Russian minister of transportation Maxim Sokolov said “The claim that the terrorists has shot down the plane using an anti-aircraft missile can not be considered reliable” according to RIA Novosti.
The Egyptian military said “militants in Sinai have shoulder fired anti-aircraft weapons that can shoot about 4.3 kilometers in the air, but the plane flew at 9.1 kilometers when it dropped off the radar.”
Many victims have also been found with their seatbelts on, indicading that it is most likely that the pilot had asked the passengers to tighten their seatbelts because of a technical problem with the plane.
Mourning Russians have put flowers, candles and pictures of the victims in front of St. Petersburg airport.
